Video conferencing online: run a video conference with nothing to install

Updated November 8, 2026

Video conferencing is a conversation between several people with sound and video over the internet. It used to need dedicated hardware and paid software; today a browser is enough. Here is how it works, what you need and how to run a video conference in Kurultai, a service made in Kyrgyzstan with its servers in the country.

What video conferencing is

A video conference is an online meeting where people see and hear each other, chat and share their screens. Video conferencing usually means the technology behind it: servers, software and connections that carry the sound and video.

For a stand-up, a lesson, an interview or an all-hands, choosing a service comes down to a few questions: how many people fit, how long a free meeting lasts, whether guests have to install anything and where the servers are.

What you need

  • a computer, laptop or phone with a camera and microphone;
  • an up-to-date browser: Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox;
  • an internet connection: mobile 4G is enough for video, and on a weak connection you can keep audio only;
  • the meeting link or code from the organizer.

How to run a video conference in Kurultai

  1. Open kurultai.kg and press “Meeting without an account”.
  2. Copy the invite link and send it on WhatsApp, Telegram or by email.
  3. Check your camera and microphone on the screen before joining and press “Join”.
  4. Guests open the link, type their name and they are in, with nothing to install.

Meetings have chat, screen sharing, raised hands and reactions. The organizer can lock the meeting, mute a participant and name a co-host.

Why servers in Kyrgyzstan matter

Sound and video in Kurultai go through a media server in Bishkek. The path from a participant to the server is short, so the delay is small even on mobile internet. The website, the database and the media server all run in Kyrgyzstan.

Tips for a good video conference

  • face a window or a lamp, not away from it, so the camera sees your face;
  • use headphones to avoid echo;
  • mute yourself when you are not speaking;
  • on a weak connection choose “Data saver” or “Audio only” in the Layout menu;
  • for long meetings, switch on Premium in advance.

Frequently asked questions

Can I hold a video conference for free?

Yes. In Kurultai a meeting without an account lasts up to 30 minutes, with a free account up to 1 hour, both with up to 100 participants. Premium for 490 som a month removes the time limit.

Do participants need to install anything?

No. A participant opens the link in a browser on a computer or phone and types a name. Kurultai apps for iPhone and Android exist but are optional.

How many people can join?

Up to 100 participants in one meeting on any plan, up to 300 on Business 300.

Where are the servers?

In Kyrgyzstan. Sound and video go through a media server in Bishkek rather than Europe, which keeps the connection fast.
